Originally an engineer, Elke Lieb, ESSEC & MANNHEIM Modular EMBA Class of 2009, grew up professionally in Marketing/Sales with multinational medical devices company Johnson & Johnson.
A devoted mother of two, she decided against an international assignment, instead chosing an Executive MBA to advance her career and to broaden her horizon. Her research soon brought her to the ESSEC & MANNHEIM EMBA:
"Living in a Franco-German environment as I do, the program was exactly what I was looking for: the part-time format allowed me to still have a family life, and the two academic degrees would increase my chances in both job markets."
Lieb also very much appreciated the intense group work involved in the program: "More than 60% of the work is done in teams – and just as in 'real' business life your results largely depend on that teamwork."
But the highlight for her was the Social Class Project: "We raised funds for an international nonprofit organization that builds locally sustainable drinking water resources in developing countries. The project roadmap was excellent in terms of idea finding, decision making processes and execution: 'Paddle for Water' combined tough business goals with highly ethical driven social responsibility."
Today Elke Lieb is Head of Business Intelligence at Heraeus Medical which is part of Heraeus Holding, one of Germany's 'hidden champions' – a globally operating family business with a more than 160-year tradition.
