When promoted to a general management role, seasoned engineer Miltiadis Vlachos decided he needed to expand on his leadership skills in order to successfully meet the challenges ahead of him.
His search soon brought him to Mannheim where he joined the ESSEC & MANNHEIM Modular EMBA Class of 2010: "I was looking for an internationally recognized, high-quality program, which is clearly the case for the ESSEC & MANNHEIM EMBA. The diversity of participant profiles also seemed very exciting to me, as it would add to the classroom experience, and the modular format ideally suited my schedule and learning style. Last but by no means least, the program offers great value for money."
Looking back, Miltiadis considers his expectations towards the program more than met: "The Executive MBA has had a big impact on my development: I acquired important know-how in various areas, like finance, HR and many others. But even more importantly, the way the program was set up, it started a maturing process that helped me grow as a leader and over time enabled me to take on additional responsibilities – which of course has also had a positive impact on my compensation package."
Some of his personal highlights: "Classes often include case studies or reaI-world scenarios and simulations, through which I gained a hands-on understanding of the various business functions, which is very useful to people who are used to working on the tech side of things. I also still remember the negotiation module a lot – practically every time I prepare for an important negotiation."
For Miltiadis, there are many more takeaways from the program, but there is one last that he especially would like to mention: "I shared some very nice moments with great people and found some real friends for life. A big thank you to the program and my classmates!"
Today Miltiadis Vlachos is Managing Director & Facility General Manager at CABOT Aerogel GmbH.
